Good Fences

Don't you love it when the simplest thing makes you so happy? I did a little project in my backyard that makes me happy every time I see it. It's my red picket fence. A few years ago a friend gave me a little section of fence that she had been using to hold up her raspberries. Originally I thought I would use it for the same thing, but never got around to staking it up at our raspberry bush so it sat around unused for a long time.

Then one day we were at Home Depot and I found a beautiful pint of red paint on the oops shelf. Speaking of simple things that make you happy can I just say, OOPS PAINT!! Practically every thing I have ever painted I've used oops paint. One dollar a pint or $5 a gallon makes for a pretty economical project no matter what you are doing.  Anyway, as soon as I saw it I knew exactly what I wanted to do. My husband was probably embarrassed by how excited I was over a tiny can of clearance paint. So I brought my precious the oops paint home and painted that lonely piece of fence. Then I sealed it with some clear deck sealant that we had left over since I knew it would be facing the elements year round.

It has been a few years since I painted it and it's holding up really well. Don't you think it makes a dreary section of the yard so much happier? That bright pop of color just makes me smile every time I see it. I'm pretty sure my husband is sick of hearing me say how much I love that fence. At least I'm easy to please.

I looks great as a backdrop to our flowers in the summer.

And gives us something to look at back there in the winter.

I'm not sure if good fences make good neighbors, but a pretty one sure can make you happy.

Thanks for reading.
